Today was an active day. I spent the morning running around getting a million work items done and then quit in time to have lunch with DH. One of the lovely things about carpooling and working close to each other is that we get a extra few hours together a day. I like to listen to him talk and enjoy our exchanges on life and the universe over a sandwich.
Today was errand by phone/web day. Why is it that every simple request requires 3 phones calls to make happen? I wonder if every woman's life turns into a series of lists like mine does? I finally got in touch with the wallpaper people (who never sent out my Paris wallpaper, it turns out) today after re-ordering once already. They say they will have the paper sent in 2-5 days! Hurray! But I'll believe it when I see it. I also picked up an entertainment center on the web that matches the office furniture so that area will look much better. My vet found a pharmacy that has topical thyroid medicine so kitty will be much happier in the future too (the end of a 3 week search for something the kitty will allow to be given to him). I also got the post office who mangled a piece of mail and lost a section after several trys earlier.
As the day wore on, my eye that was red upon awakening did not get better, so my DH picked me up and we ran to the doc's office. Sure enough, I have my first case of pink eye - or some infection. SO it was off to the grocery store/pharmacy for meds and groceries and back home for quick cleaning and a bite to eat. Family is coming tomorrow to see the National Zoo and our drummer was heading in tonight, so it was nice to work from home while restoring order to my home this afternoon for a bit. Everything is in ship shape, which makes my little heart glad.
I managed to do a bit of gardening before rehearsal was to start, so the deck gardens should be much happier. I deadheaded purple coneflowers, purple petunias, purple asters and rose portulacas and watered them as well. My garlic chives are blooming and are gorgeous with little white flowers everywhere. Some rain and watering are restoring my droopy, but blooming hostas, but the daylilly has given up the ghost and refuses to bloom as have many of the coneflowers and most of the nasturtium. Bleeding hearts are finishing up and I managed to trim the dead stalks back, so the area looks less sad. Bleeding hearts are the national funeral flower of Tibet. I can see why. :)
Amidst chores, I spoke with my mother and my MIL, and made sure both were happy and felt included. Began planning my fathers birthday celebration and was given the reminder not to forget to include some other family members. Hopefully I will remember this time. LOL
I also checked on a friend in Mobile who just went through hurricane Katrina and offered assistance to this family. They are out of power for a couple weeks, but are okay, with no structural damage. Miraculous, given the troubles of the area. As school is starting, they are staying put for now. How will school run with no power? Crazy. But at least they have another alternative, which is important. If everyone took in one family, maybe the devastation wouldn't be as terrible.
I must say I am proud of my company through Katrina. They donated a million dollars, will match employee donations and personally sent helicopters to lift new employees out of offices. The head is truly a good guy and always helps out with huge events to help people in trouble. Good warm fuzzy karma for him this week.
Well, it is late and time for eye drops...
Pleasant dreams!
